In the summer of 1947, an unidentified craft crashed in the New Mexico desert.

Government recovery teams found several surviving visitors stranded on Earth. When the first human officer approached, one alien stepped forward holding a single hot dog.

It offered the hot dog peacefully.

Not as a weapon.
Not as a demand.

As a gift.

The specimen became known as Specimen 001.

Laboratory testing revealed compounds and structural properties unlike anything produced on Earth. The visitors explained that their civilization had spent generations studying food across the galaxy. Years earlier, after encountering the hot dog on Earth, they had returned home with a specimen and attempted to improve it using extraterrestrial food science.

The result was Specimen 001.

But it was unfinished.

They believed Earth possessed what they lacked: open-flame cooking, regional traditions, countless toppings, and an unmatched devotion to the hot dog.

A partnership was formed.

Human scientists provided ingredients, facilities, and access to America’s hot dog industry. The visitors provided knowledge far beyond contemporary food science.

Together, they created the Hot Dog Research Institute of America and began the search for the perfect hot dog.

For decades, Specimen 001 served as the foundation of every HDRIA research program.

Then, without warning, it vanished.

no personnel were recorded entering the containment level.

Only a handwritten message remained:

“The perfect hot dog is not created. It is discovered.”

Official records classify Specimen 001 as missing.

Some within the HDRIA believe it was secretly relocated somewhere beneath the Institute.

Its true location remains unknown.

But unexplained activity continues throughout the lower levels, and several researchers believe the original gift never truly left the facility.

Research continues.

Specimen 001 is still out there.

And it may still be unfinished.
